History of Blood Centers of the Pacific

Blood Centers of the Pacific was established on December 31, 1997, from the merger of Irwin Memorial Blood Centers and Peninsula Blood Bank. Irwin was founded in June 1941, in San Francisco the first non-profit community blood bank in the United States. Peninsula opened on May 22, 1942, as the San Mateo County Blood Bank with funds donated by labor and medical groups.
