BCP has many departments and hundreds of employees. Do you know the function of each department? Or the role of many of our staff members? Each month, we’ll spotlight a staff member or department. Last month we interviewed Linda Chai, a wonderful donations coordinator. This month, we’d like to introduce you to Lucy Ho!
What’s your job title? And what do you do?
My job title is Quality Specialist and my main function is to provide quality oversight for all manufacturing processes within BCP. I’m part of a great team that’s responsible for ensuring the organization remains in compliance with regulations. We accomplish this by bringing compliance issues to the attention of management, serving as a resource to operations on quality issues and participating in performance improvement initiatives.
Describe your typical day at work.
I’ve been in this position for quite some time and can hardly remember any day as being routine or typical. My days are based around the needs of the organization, whatever that may be at the time. On any given day, I can be working on any of these tasks – reviewing deviation reports; facilitating recalls and market withdrawals; evaluating non-conformance; tracking, trending and analyzing data; working with operations for solutions as part of our process improvement teams; conducting internal audits and writing reports; preparing and hosting external audits; preparing requests and maintaining licenses/certifications; reviewing and approving SOPs and validations; training operational staff; and researching learning opportunities. There is always something to do because this position requires someone with the ability to wear multiple hats and the flexibility to move from a quality management mode to crisis management mode.
What do you like best/most about your job?
I like the variety that comes with the job. Although there’s always a lot of everything to do, I’m not stuck doing the same thing all day. I also love the fact that I get to work with so many great folks who care about safety and quality as much as I do.
How long have you worked at BCP?
I’ve been with BCP for seven years. I started out in the Components Laboratory and when I transitioned over to the Quality Department, I had the great opportunity to learn and be a part of all operating units within BCP.
Anything else to add?
BCP and the Quality Department are partners on the same team and we share the same vision. We’re definitely into compliance but we’re committed to continuous performance improvement and customer service too.
Thanks Lucy for all of your hard work to keep quality and safety our highest priority!
BCP has many departments and hundreds of employees. Do you know the function of each department? Or the role of many of our staff members? Each month, we’ll spotlight a staff member or department. Last month we interviewed BCP’s Hospital Services Supervisor, Dena Terashima. This month, we’d like to introduce you to Linda Chai!
What’s your job title? And what do you do?
I am a donations coordinator. I schedule apheresis appointments for our donors, with my focus being on the Peninsula Center. With Vista now implemented, I also check eligibility dates for some of our donors.
Describe your typical day at work.
A typical day for me goes a little like this: get in, say “Hi” to who ever is working with me, log onto my computer, listen to and take care of voicemails, check my email, check the schedules for all of our centers, and then start getting donors to donate.
What do you like best/most about your job?
What I love most about my job is getting to know our donors. You’d be surprised how much you can learn about a person through a five-minute conversation!
What are the challenges? How do you overcome them?
My biggest challenge is not having an immediate answer for a donor. There have been times where I have to go elsewhere to help a donor and the wait, for both the donor and me, is excruciating!
How long have you worked at BCP?
I have been with BCP for approximately 4 years.
Anything else to add?
I would like to add that the gals and guys I work with really make my day! They’re always there for a shoulder to lean on, to give me constructive criticism, to help me with anything, and to share snacks!!!
Thank you so much Linda for all of your hard work! If anyone is interested in scheduling an apheresis appointment give us a call at 1-800-707-8483 today!
