Quick Bits

January is National Volunteer Blood Donor Month!

Hats off to Pioneer High School!
Pioneer High School is a small continuation school in Redding, California. The student population hovers under 200 students. Shasta Blood Center brought its bloodmobile out to the high school on September 20th for a blood drive. The principal, Mr. Greg Beale, is a long time blood donor and his enthusiasm was mirrored by the students. We were overwhelmed by their generosity. There was a line of donors patiently waiting from the time we arrived until the time we left. Fifty-six students were able to donate with another 16 still hoping to as the school day ended. The level of participation was at a record level. Our hats off to Pioneer High School!

Fright Fest Monster Blood Drive
At Marine World

The third annual Monster Blood Drive and Fright Fest was held at Six Flags Marine World in Vallejo this past October. To kick off the event, ghouls and goblins lined up to donate at the park when the Bloodmobile made a stop on October 4th. Dracula himself gave blood instead of taking it!

Fright Fest is the Bay Area’s largest Halloween party, with three scary haunted houses, zombie zones, a hypnotist and laser show, a costume parade, animals and a trick-or-treat trail for the little ones.

Marine World recognizes the increased demand for blood in the Bay Area and partnered with BCP by offering complimentary passes to 12,000 blood donors! Donors had the opportunity to join in the Fright Fest fun every weekend in October. The Monster Blood Drive’s aim was to reward repeat donors for their efforts and to attract new donors to become involved with this life-saving group.

BCP would like to thank the management and team of players at Six Flags Marine World for their generous contribution to the community blood program. Thanks Six Flags Marine World!
