Blood Centers of the Pacific is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, representing community leaders in the fields of medicine, business and civic service and is licensed by the Food and Drug Administration.  BCP is managed by a dedicated group of leaders, including a Chief Executive Officer, a Chief Operating Officer and 12 Directors.

Director, Facilities
The facilities department maintains and manages more than 125,000 square feet of property, both owned and leased, in 10 locations found throughout the Bay Area. The department handles maintenance and small repairs, and manages many of the contracted services to ensure that the properties are safe, secure and meet all required standards of operations.

Director, Communications
The communications department provides media relations, marketing, public relations and publications expertise to BCP.  The department also manages all social media channels and oversees coordination of volunteers.  The communications department works closely with the recruitment and collections departments and reports directly to the CEO.

Director, Recruitment
Donor recruitment is responsible for recruiting blood donors by organizing blood drives at companies, schools, places of worship, etc, and managing our 16 donation locations.  We also educate the public about blood through appearances at community events.

Director, SBC Administrative
The Shasta Blood Center is responsible for the operations and administration of BCP’s North State region, including center and blood drive recruitment and collections.

Director, Technical Operations
Technical operations includes three functional responsibilities, including component production, testing lab and technical support (quality control).

Director, Training, Safety and Process Improvement (TSPI)
TSPI continually plans, directs and implements projects to refine current methods and operations. It works to safeguard employees though on-the-job injury prevention, worker’s compensation reporting and our return- to-work program.  The department provides equipment repair and maintenance.  TSPI also provides training on policies and procedures as well as customer service courses to enhance our diverse workforce.

Director, Sales and Marketing/Hospital Services
The hospital services division is responsible for blood component inventory management, blood component storage, and request receipt and component distribution. These functions include daily accounting of inventory, projected utilization and component outdate. In addition, the department processes orders, packs components for shipment and makes certain that blood and blood components are delivered to hospital customers in a timely manner.

Director, Human Resources
Human resources provides quality services to maintain diversity, equal opportunity and a supportive work environment for all staff. Services include employment, compensation, benefits and pension administration, employee and labor relations, and policy interpretation.

Director, Medical Affairs/Immunohematolgy Reference Laboratory
The medical affairs department is responsible for the medical oversight of BCP operations, including approval of blood center policies and procedures and new technology development. It provides transfusion medicine consultation to hospital clinicians and blood center staff. It oversees the blood center’s transfusion medicine fellowship program (a joint program with UCSF) and educates UCSF medical and technical staff. It also actively participates in transfusion safety research projects in collaboration with Blood Systems Research Institute.

The Immunohematolgy Reference Laboratory is staffed by medical technologists who are specialists in blood banking. The laboratory resolves complex red cell antibody cases using both serological and molecular testing, in addition, the laboratory performs platelet immunology studies.

Director, Finance
The finance department is responsible for overseeing the financial health of BCP. Functions include financial statement preparation, budgeting and forecasting, as well as revenue invoicing, accounts payable and payroll.

Director, Information Technology (IT)
The IT department is the technology, information and data processing provider for Blood Centers of the Pacific and United Blood Services, Central Coast.  The department includes an Application and Software Section, a Network Operations Section and a Data Entry Section with Oracle running on Unix and Windows Platform over a meshed MPLS Network with shared resources from Blood Systems Inc for Oracle E-Business, Kronos and EDMS.

Director, Donor Collections
The collections department is responsible for the safe collection of blood components to support patient transfusions, further manufacturing goods and research endeavors.
