For years, DeAnn always avoided giving blood. “I feared it would be painful,” she recalls. “Yet each time I dodged an opportunity to give blood I carried a different kind of pain: guilt.” Then one day DeAnn found herself sitting by her father’s hospital bed as he received blood for internal bleeding. “Someone donated this lifesaving blood and it gave me pause to think,” she says. “This was a defining moment for me.
“Not long after that, I gave blood to repay what was given to my father as a thank you,” she says. “The positive feeling of knowing my donation would save others was such a natural high.” Now DeAnn commits to giving blood as often as she can. “I walk away from each donation feeling like I’ve made a positive difference in the lives of others and that feels wonderful!”
