San Francisco, CA – Blood Centers of the Pacific is making it easier to donate blood. Thanks to a community grant from Uber, the local blood bank now offers free rides through Uber Health to blood donors to and from its two San Francisco donation centers.
This new service is available to any blood donor living or working in San Francisco and donating at either San Francisco location. All rides are limited to within San Francisco. The two locations are:
The Downtown Center at 250 Bush Street Suite 136 (Mills Building) S.F. CA 94104
The Irwin Center at 270 Masonic Ave, San Francisco, CA 94118
“Our goal is to make the donation process not only rewarding, but as easy and convenient as possible,” said Nicole Anderson, regional director of Blood Centers of the Pacific. “Thanks to our friends at Uber, this removes one more hurdle that often stands in the way of somebody donating, which is simply getting to a donation center.”
Uber is providing $5,000 in community credits to Blood Centers of the Pacific. Free rides for donors will be available for a limited time only. With Uber Health, Blood Centers of the Pacific can offer rides to donors even if they don’t have the Uber app or a smartphone. - all donors need is text message.
Over 100 healthcare organizations in the U.S., including hospitals, clinics, rehab centers, senior care facilities and physical therapy centers are already using Uber Health as part of the beta program.
A donor can book a ride in advance at the same time they schedule their blood donation. This is done by calling 888-393-GIVE. The option of booking an Uber ride is only available for donors calling this number and is not available when scheduling appointments online or any other way. After they donate, Blood Centers of the Pacific will schedule their Uber ride from the donation center back to their home, work or anywhere in the city.
Blood Centers of the Pacific urges both existing and first-time donors of all blood types to visit bloodcenters.org or call 1-888-393-GIVE to schedule an appointment at one of its six donor centers or community blood drives throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.
